Fortnite is offering PS4 players the chance to earn some major cash. Epic Games revealed the Fortnite Celebration Cup, offering a $1 million prize pool and exclusive cosmetics. Announced on the PlayStation Blog, the Solos tournament will take place on Saturday, Feb. 15 and Sunday, Feb. 16, just before the launch of Season 2. Each day offers the chance to win different prizes.
On the first day, players can compete to win a new skin, spray, and pickaxe depending on their placement in the leaderboards. Three tiers offer three different prizes. Players who place in the top 50% will receive the Take Cover spray. Players who make it into the top 25% will earn the Take Cover spray and the Wild Accent pickaxe. Players who place in the top 5% of the regional leaderboard will earn both of the previous prizes as well as the Tango skin.
The second day of the tournament introduces the chance to grab a piece of the $1 million prize pool.
Those interested in entering must follow a set of rules. All competitors must play on PS4 with an account that is at least level 15. Two-factor authentication through the player's Epic Games account is also required.
This offers a huge chance for Fortnite players who solely play on the PS4, and the opportunities that open from winning could be massive. Just look at Kyle "Bugha" Giersdorf who acquired global fame through his impressive win at the first Fortnite World Cup. He took home $3 million and has since become an international face in esports. He was recently seen in a Super Bowl commercial for Sabra's line of hummus.
He isn't the only Fortnite breakout star. Several other personalities that earned widespread fame through Fortnite include Tyler "Ninja" Blevins, Ben "DrLupo" Lupo, and Jack "CouRage" Dunlop. It's highly possible that we could discover the next battle royale superstar through the Celebration Cup, this time paving the way for more console competitors.
Fortnite is available on PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android.
