Here’s When Fortnite’s Halloween ‘Fortnitemares’ Event Begins And What To Expect

Here's everything you need to know about Fortnite's Halloween 'Fortnitemares' event.

The third annual Fortnitemares is almost upon us, as Epic Games prepares to unleash yet another Halloween event, this time for Chapter 2.

It will be the first Fortnitemares on the new map, and hopefully that means it will deviate somewhat from previous iterationsâ€"namely, that it will do something more interesting and unique than simply add PvE monsters to the map.

Unfortunately, the Cube Fiends just aren’t that interesting.

While we don’t know much about this year’s Fortnitemares, we do know exactly when it will begin. Epic Games tweeted the start-time this morning:

What To Expect

So Fortnitemares will begin at 6 am PT / 9 am ET and will likely include:

  • More Halloween-themed cosmetics, though these have been in the shop for the last few days as well. (Both old and new skins and cosmetics).
  • Almost certainly some kind of Limited-Time Mode with a Halloween theme, and possibly the return of Cube Fiends.
  • Probably some kind of free Halloween challenges with cosmetic rewards that players will have a limited time to complete.
  • Probably new or unvaulted items like the Pumpkin Rocket Launcher which was introduced as a seasonal weapon during the first Fortnitemares in 2017.
  • Possibly entirely new itemsâ€"the Slurp Juice consumable was added during the first Fortnitemares, for instance.
  • You can view the leaked Halloween cosmetics and skins here.

    Downtime

While the Fortnitemares event will go live at 9 am ET, it’s unclear when servers will be going down for the update. Epic has not tweeted (as of this writing) when or if downtime will begin. I’ll update this post when that happens.

I think it’s very likely that downtime will begin in the middle of the night / early morning tomorrow, since this should be a full patch alongside a seasonal event rather than just a content update. I suspect downtime will begin around 4 am ET.

    End-Date

We don’t have an end-date for the Fortnitemares event just yet, and looking to the past two years isn’t very helpful. In 2017 the event lasted for an entire month. Last year, it lasted just a week-and-a-half.

I think the latter is more likely. Fortnite runs so many more Limited-Time events, ranging from Batman tie-ins to holiday extravaganzas, I doubt Epic will want to run a Halloween event through November. Ten days seems about right, which would place the end-date on the 7th or thereabouts.

As more information comes in, I’ll continue to update this post. Hopefully this year’s Fortnitemares is a blast. We’ll find out tomorrow morning.
